What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. Sites use them to remember choices and to measure how pages are used. This page explains which of these the Plumbers Poole website uses, and why.

The choice you make on the banner

The first time you visit, a banner asks you to accept or reject cookies. Your browser keeps your answer in local storage, under the name cookie_consent, so the banner does not appear on every page. However, if you clear your browser data, the banner will ask again.

Choosing Accept lets Google Analytics and its advertising settings use cookies. In contrast, choosing Reject switches analytics and advertising storage off. Either way, the site works in the same way for you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It sets cookies that hold a random identifier, so it can tell a returning visit from a new one. The analytics script also loads only after the page has finished loading, so it does not slow down your first view of the page.

Next, Google consent mode passes your choice to Google. Advertising storage is denied by default. Analytics measurement is on by default, but it stops if you choose Reject.

Essential storage

The site itself needs very little. For example, the menu and the enquiry form work without cookies. The only item we store ourselves is your banner choice, as described above.

Third parties

Google sets the analytics cookies, so we do not control them. Cloudflare delivers the site and may also set technical cookies to protect it from abuse. You can read the policies of both companies for more detail.

Managing cookies in your browser

Most browsers let you control cookies in their settings. For example, you can:

• View the cookies stored on your device
• Delete all cookies, or only specific ones
• Block cookies from all sites, or from chosen sites
• Ask the browser to clear cookies when you close it

If you block every cookie, the site will still work. Instead, our analytics will count you less accurately.
